We’ve Moved. Again.

Maravilla Picture.jpg

Sharon and I crossed another threshold in our lives. We’ve moved. Again. Not without pain of leaving, as with every move, but full of excitement and wonderment for what lies ahead in a new place and for a new season.

This move comes also as we stand on the threshold of growing older. This threshold too is not without its pain, the pain of loss, the ever-shortening horizon, the arduous choices of downsizing, the nagging reminders of mortality—but we have come to feel this crossing over promises so much new life, so much to learn, perhaps a new peacefulness and contentment, surely a new sense of vocation.

In any case, we have moved to a wonderful community called Maravilla Scottsdale. Our new address:

Phil and Sharon Eaton

7325 E. Princess Blvd., #2306

Scottsdale, AZ 85255

I’ve also relaunched my blog, From My Study, now over a decade old but newly refreshed and redesigned and ready for new writing. I hope the site continues to be helpful for many of you.

We miss Seattle and all our many friends there. Immensely! Our memory bank overflows with the beauty of the place and depth of meaning we lived in Seattle. We miss our dear friends in Pasadena as well, perhaps especially the ease with which we gathered with two of our boys and their beautiful families.

A crazy move? Well, I grew up in Phoenix, rich memories, to be sure! I found faith here. I grew up in an oh-so-active, vibrant family. I lived pretty deeply into the landscape and energy of a young, burgeoning city. Sharon and I lived here off and on throughout our long marriage. Our twins were born here. I went to graduate school here. When I feel memories rushing over me as I drive along these days, I realize we’ve got some deep roots in this place. And yet there is also so much yet to explore. That’s what thresholds do to us: They trigger both memories and expectations.

Even as I write this little notice of our move, I realize we are in one of those thin places. That’s what the Celts call it, where we stand on a threshold in a place where God comes closer. It’s when he calls us in new directions, shows us new ways to live and believe, cleans out the debris, reminding us what really matters. We hope God may be pointing us toward new ways we may contribute to his marvelous, ever-emerging kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven.

And so, from our new home to yours, I hope our conversation will continue, perhaps in new and fresh ways.
